Remembering Zahid Malik on his 5th death anniversary

ISLAMABAD—The 5th death anniversary of founding editor-in-chief of Pakistan Observer was observed on September 1.

Born on October 5, 1937, Malik started his career as a civil servant. After his retirement as a joint secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he launched a monthly Urdu news and views magazine Hurmat in 1980. He later started the English-language daily Pakistan Observer in 1988 and was its editor-in-chief and publisher.

Malik authored several books. He received a Writers Guild of Pakistan prize for his book Public Relations, first published in Urdu in 1971. He also wrote Mazameen-i-Quran-i-Hakeem, a classification of verses of the Holy Quran translated into English, French, and German.

The Pakistani government conferred on him the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2011 in recognition of his contribution to journalism, promotion of the ideology of Pakistan, and writings about religion.
